After releasing Candy Rack checkout upsells a few weeks ago, we are super excited to confirm the release of our sixth placement, the post-purchase checkout upsell.

With the release of this offer placement, Candy Rack now covers the whole purchase journey on Shopify stores. The existing offer placements are:

  • Embedded offers on the product pages
  • Pop-up offers on the product pages
  • Pop-up offers on the cart page
  • Embedded offers in the checkout (Shopify Plus only)
  • Post-purchase interstitial offer in the checkout (before the Thank you page)
  • Post-purchase offers in the checkout (Thank you page and Order status page)

How to add post-purchase checkout upsell

To create a post-purchase checkout upsell, follow the steps below.

  • Go to your Candy Rack app admin, click on Create offer
  • From the placements, select Post-purchase – Embedded block
  • Finalize the offer by choosing targeting and offer product, and click on Save
  • Go to your Theme editor > Checkout > Thank you (and/or Order status)
  • In the left menu, select Apps > Candy Rack > Post-purchase to upsell offer and click on the plus icon
  • Position the offer block and fine-tune the details like messaging and style
  • Click on Save and go to your store to test the offer

Upgraded checkout required

To use the post-purchase checkout offers, you will need to have the latest version of the Shopify checkout. In order to perform the upgrade, you need to remove all your additional checkout scripts.

The deadline to perform the upgrade is set to August 26, 2026, for non-Plus merchants and August 25, 2025 for Plus merchants. For more information check the official upgrade guides.

Conclusion: Don't miss the opportunity

Post-purchase upsells are a unique opportunity to increase the AOV without any risk, as the customer has already finished the order. Every incremental sale will add pure upside to your top line.

Based on our experience we recommend offering the same product (i.e., "Get an additional one for your friends and family") and/or consider adding a discount of 10 to 15%. Think about this as your last chance to sell, which can dramatically increase your AOV/ROAS.
