IMPORTANT UPDATE: In February 2024, Shopify removed the app from the App Store and you can't install it anymore. Existing users have time until May 6, 2024 to export their reviews and migrate to a different solution.
Product Reviews is a review app offered by Shopify. The app is free of charge, but has a lower rating compared to other popular reviews apps.
The app UI is embedded into Shopify Administrative system and uses Shopify native design element, which makes it feel like you stay working on your store and just use some additional settings.
The app has all the basic setting for gathering reviews. Product Reviews by Shopify can auto-publish reviews, There is no clear onboarding, most things you'll have to figure out by yourself. For example, you would have to insert the product review code in your theme by yourself.
There is no live chat support or any other way how you can contact the app support team within the app UI, you can try contacting the Shopify general support.
The app does not send review request emails to your customers, however they can write a review product on product pages. You can set in the app settings, to get a notification for each review left.
Some merchants mention that the app generates a 404-error and the Shopify team explains such a behavior by the fact, that the Product reviews app requires "cookies" to work and some browsers or the incognito tabs prevent it from being used.
Overall, the app has its advantages and disadvantages, but it's free of charge, so give it a try.
